The Head of HR / People Management will play a pivotal role in supporting our charity’s mission by providing expert advice and guidance to managers and leaders across all areas of our work, including supported housing, youth and community projects, children’s services in our eight nurseries, commercial hostels, and central services.

With approx. 350 staff, the postholder will ensure we have the right people in the right place at the right time, enabling our teams to deliver the highest quality services and allowing every member of staff to reach their full potential. The role also takes a lead on training and development, ensuring all our training is best suited to our needs and implemented effectively, as well as supporting and recording general training and development opportunities across the organisation.

The role includes line management of our Recruitment and Onboarding Officer, ensuring effective workforce planning, smooth recruitment processes, and a positive introduction for all new starters. The post holder will take a lead on our HR systems to ensure they are being used effectively and maximising the benefits of the systems. The Head of HR will ensure our policies are up to date, clearly communicated, and implemented consistently, while supporting managers with advice and practical guidance on people-related matters. They will also act as a key touch point for all staff with HR concerns, providing a safe, supportive, and professional resource when needed. The role works closely with our Finance team in relation to accurate data being sent through for payroll and ensuring our PeopleHR system is fit for purpose. We anticipate recruiting a further role across HR and Finance that will bring with it further line management responsibilities to the Head of HR.

As a visible and proactive leader, the Head of HR will help to embed our values throughout the organisation, shaping a culture that is inclusive, respectful, and focused on continuous growth. They will take the lead when necessary, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on support, and ensuring that our HR function contributes positively to the success of our YMCA.

Based in Bath but will need to be able to travel across all our sites in Bath, Bristol, Wiltshire, South and East Somerset.
