YMCA Green Shoots Day Nursery is a purpose built nursery all on one level with light, spacious rooms for each age group. It is set in the grounds of Studley Green Primary School alongside the local children centre and has been managed by YMCA Bath Group since May 2010. It is registered for 55 places. Green Shoots plays an important part in the local community.

Green Shoots offers full time, part-time and sessional care for children from 3 months to 5 years. We make full use of every inch of our outdoor space at Green Shoots. In our garden we grow fruit and vegetables, have extensive play equipment, and use the grass area for different activities depending on the time of year. In the summer we build shelters that enable the children to play outside all year.

Waterproofs and wellies can be a necessity as we splash in puddles, kick leaves and enjoy the various muddy areas.

Our garden is a magical place where children can explore and enjoy many different activities. We have a specially designed and unique climbing frame and a lovely separate garden for the youngest children as well as a large area around the nursery. We have a strong belief in outdoor play and use all available space to enjoy life in our community.

We have a strong team of 4 permanent qualified staff; this ensures continuity for both the children and their parents. We are a friendly welcoming team who provide a wide range of activities to support the individual needs of the children. In the Daisies room we work hard on promoting socialisation as well as independent self-help skills to aid the children with their move up to the pre-school room. The relationships with both parents and their children is paramount, this enables us to build up a picture, along with the all about me sheets, about the children and their interest and needs so that we are able to tailor our activities/resources to best suit the children and further their development. Having good relationships with the parents also allows them to feel comfortable to come to us for advice on potty training or any concerns regarding their children.

Sunflower Room  3- 4 years approx

Within the Sunflower room, we work on the ethos that children learn through play and staff within the room will extend their play and learning opportunities by adding resources to enhance their interest.

We offer opportunities to play both inside and outside as we believe outdoor activities are also an integral part of a child’s learning and development.  A range of activities are available daily to enhance the seven areas of learning.  The children are also given free play time to develop their own skills, interests and relationships at their own pace.  We promote working in a partnership with parents and therefore, they can become involved in their child’s learning processes if they wish to.  Parents will often share activities from home and we will talk through these when the child comes into Sunflowers again.

In the Sunflowers room, we work closely with outside agencies, mainly the speech therapists, social care and reception teachers.  The transition into school begins very early on in the academic year as we use facilities at our onsite school and the reception teachers will often come through and engage in activities with the children and staff.  During the summer, we are fortunate so far, to be allowed to use the school hall for PE sessions which enables the children to become independent with preparing and organising themselves.

We have a flexible routine in place within our room as we have a rolling snack and children are given the choice of whether they have snack or not.  During the course of the session, we offer free play times, small group activities, BLAST activities, SEN activities and letters and sounds activities as well as story and rhyme time on a daily basis.
