Young Carers Festival 2026

YMCA BG Youth Workers recently had the privilege of accompanying 25 young carers to the Young Carers Festival for a weekend packed with fun, learning and connection.

The festival brought together young carers from across the country, creating a unique opportunity for them to socialise, build friendships and enjoy new experiences in a supportive environment.

Throughout the weekend, young people immersed themselves in a wide range of activities designed to boost confidence, encourage teamwork and spark creativity. From dance, drama and magic workshops to spoken word sessions, water sports, crafting, graffiti, sports, pamper activities and games, there was something for everyone. It was inspiring to see so many young people stepping outside their comfort zones, developing new skills and supporting one another along the way.

Alongside the fun, the festival also offered valuable opportunities to prepare for the future. Young carers could take part in workshops focused on CV writing and employability, as well as sessions that amplified their voices on important topics such as education, mental health and future opportunities for young carers.

Most importantly, the weekend gave these young people a chance to take a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities, relax, have fun and create lasting memories. Their enthusiasm, resilience and positivity made the event truly special.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and support the festival, and to the young people who made the weekend such a success. An especially big thank you goes to Chiara Docherty, Team Leader, and her team of exceptional youth workers.

We are proud to support these amazing young carers and look forward to creating more opportunities like this in the future.
