YMCA Little Ducklings turns 5

YMCA Little Ducklings is officially five years old!
To celebrate, the entire nursery recently came together for a Glow Party filled with fun, laughter, and glowing memories to mark their incredible journey.
Five years ago, Little Ducklings came to be when we converted two residential houses into fully functioning nurseries. Turning homes into thriving learning spaces was no small feat, and it laid the foundation for what would become a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment for children and their families.
Little Ducklings opened its doors just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and had to close almost immediately. But true to their resilient spirit, the team didn’t let that stop them. In fact, that early challenge became a catalyst for their growth and determination.
Since reopening, the nursery has achieved so much:
- a “Good” rating on their first Ofsted inspection—an incredible recognition of the high-quality care and learning environment
- launched a successful Community Larder to support local families.
- brought the magic of Christmas to life with three community Santa’s Grottos.
- facilitated three toy drives, making sure every child feels the joy of giving and receiving
- supported the education and development of over 300 families.
- secured an incredible £80,000 grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust
- transformed the gardens into inclusive, all-weather outdoor learning spaces that encourage curiosity and exploration
- created a home-from-home environment across two lovingly maintained houses and expansive gardens
- The team have undertaken extensive training in areas such as Makaton, subsidising, and even fire lighting—empowering them to deliver truly enriching experiences
Our team at Little Ducklings never stand still. They continuously evolve their environments and adapt their practices to suit the unique needs of the children in their care. Staff believe in meeting every child where they are, providing them with endless opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. Our dedicated practitioners are not only educators but also lifelong learners themselves—constantly improving, reflecting, and bringing their passion to work every day.
Over the years, Little Ducklings has had the pleasure of working with many wonderful families and team members—some who are still with us, and others who’ve moved on, even overseas. No matter where they are now, they all remain a cherished part of the Little Ducklings family.
As we celebrate five years of love, learning, and laughter, we look forward with excitement to what the future holds. We are proud of how far Little Ducklings has come—and even more inspired by what’s yet to come.
