Recently, Julia Honeywell, our Director of Children's Services, organised a special day for our nursery staff to come together, learn more about our organisation, prioritise their wellbeing, and build camaraderie.
The day was an excellent opportunity for the nursery staff to step back from their day-to-day responsibilities and look at the bigger picture of our work, while also considering their own wellbeing and having a bit of fun!
The day began with an induction session led by Mike, Trish, and Sarah, who provided an overview of YMCA Brunel Group’s diverse areas of work, its rich history, and its affiliation with YMCA England & Wales. This session was a fantastic opportunity for staff to gain a deeper understanding of our broad impact on the communities we serve and to learn about different departments.
Following the induction, Julia introduced Deanne Louise, Wellbeing Coach and founder of DL Wellness. Deanne led an insightful session focused on practical tips for maintaining personal wellbeing. Through her expertise, she guided the staff through various exercises and stress-management techniques that can be easily incorporated into their daily routines. Her interactive approach and practical advice left a lasting impact, equipping everyone with simple yet effective strategies to enhance their overall wellbeing.
After a refreshing lunch break, the fun continued with team-building activities. Each table received a mystery box containing wooden spoons and a children’s story, along with crafting supplies. The challenge was to recreate the story and perform it, resulting in some wonderfully creative and spirited presentations.
Thanks to our Health & Wellbeing team for lending some rope, a tug-of-war competition added a dose of friendly rivalry.
To conclude the day, Emma, our Fundraising & Events Manager, arranged a raffle with the help of Carol Plenty from Adult Services. Prizes ranged from luxurious Ffern perfumes and Komedia tickets to an elegant Mulberry purse, adding an element of surprise and joy.
Overall, this special day was a wonderful opportunity for Julia to celebrate her dedicated and hardworking team, and it underscored our commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging work environment.
