Street Foyer, one of our Thrive 16+ supported housing projects
has seen young people’s creativity flourish thanks to new DJ equipment funded by Youth With A Future (YWAF).
The project originally received the equipment through the efforts of a former Senior Support Worker who was also a professional DJ and rap artist. Using funding from YWAF, they purchased DJ decks and speakers to support the young residents at Street Foyer, providing a powerful tool for self-expression and fun.
Music has become a valuable outlet for many service users, offering a way to express their emotions and experiences. The DJ equipment has proven to be a vital addition to the project, giving young people access to creative opportunities that were previously unavailable.
After the Senior Support Worker left to pursue their professional music career, the YMCA was fortunate to welcome another DJ who volunteered to continue working with young people in their musical exploration. As residents transition to independent living, carrying new skills and passions with them, we hope we can continue to welcome young people arriving at Street Foyer with an immediate sense of hope for all they can achieve.
We are extremely grateful to YWAF for their generosity, which has allowed the creative skills of our young people to thrive.
This initiative highlights the positive role creative outlets can play in helping young people navigate life’s challenges. Staff at Street Foyer, and across all our work, continue to encourage young people to explore creative activities as a means of growth and self-expression.
