At Arthur’s House, one of our supported housing projects for 16-18 year-olds, the arrival of a new garden swing chair has brought a positive transformation to the outdoor space.
The swing chair, nestled in the garden space surrounded by greenery, has become a gathering point, encouraging the residents to step outside, connect, and relax.
For many of the young people at Arthur’s House, the swing chair offers something they often long for—a calm, safe space where they can simply be. The gentle motion of the swing creates a relaxing atmosphere, helping ease the stresses and anxieties of daily life. It’s been a valuable tool for community building, encouraging young people to spend time outside, away from their rooms, and engage with one another. The swing chair provides an informal, welcoming space for general use or 1-2-1 sessions.
Spending time outdoors, even in brief moments on the swing chair, can have a huge impact on mental health. It has given staff and residents a reason to step outside, enjoy fresh air, and take a break from the challenges they face. The new addition proves that sometimes, small changes can make a big difference.
