Frome Youth Club Spreads Joy with Kindness Kits at Annual Festival

The spirit of kindness was alive and well in Frome last month as part of the annual Frome Kindness Festival, which took place from 15th to 22nd March.

The festival, which celebrates the transformative power of kindness and its impact on mental health and community wellbeing, saw a heartfelt contribution from the town’s younger residents.

Young people from Frome Youth Club stepped up in a big way, choosing to take part in the festival by creating and distributing 100 “Kindness Kits” across the town on Saturday 15th March. These thoughtfully assembled kits were shared with residents as random acts of kindness — small surprises designed to spread cheer and bring smiles to faces throughout Frome.

Stepping outside their comfort zones, the youth club members showed courage, empathy, and a true sense of community spirit. Their efforts were not only well received by locals, but also served as a powerful reminder of the impact that even the simplest acts of kindness can have.

This is a fantastic example of how our values shine through in our work. The young people really did themselves proud, showing that kindness and community go hand in hand.

The initiative perfectly captured one of YMCA Brunel Group’s core values: We are Kind. “We treat everyone with empathy, respect and compassion. As kind individuals we prioritise the wellbeing of others, offering support and understanding in every interaction. We believe that kindness strengthens our community and creates a positive, inclusive environment where everyone can belong and thrive.”

A few days after the festival, the young people received a heartfelt letter from a local MP who received one of their Kindness Kits. “I would like to thank you all for my wonderful kindness pack that you gave me for the Frome Kindness Festival. It was such a kind gesture to make for people and I have already used more of the items in it.”
