A Party to Remember as Frome Youth & Community Centre Reopens

Frome Youth & Community Centre is officially open!

After some huge renovations thanks to support from the Youth Investment Fund, FYCC is now up and running and better than ever. The young people have been involved in the process from the beginning, helping us to secure the funding through video testimonials and being at the forefront of decisions about how to make the space feel like theirs.

Youth workers at FYCC organised a fantastic opening party which took place on Saturday, 5th of April, allowing young people the opportunity to explore and get to know their new space.

YMCA Youth Workers are dedicated to helping young people improve problem-solving skills, increase computer literacy, and discover new creative passions.

“Being part of a young person’s journey can create a lasting legacy as they grow and impact their world, with an ever-widening ripple effect,” says Mark Willcox, Director of Youth & Community. “We know that one young person’s positive influence can change the world and future generations.”

New additions to FYCC include:

IT Suite with a brand-new Roland printer, courtesy of support from Enhesa. This will allow for young people to express their creativity and design skills and practice thinking in an entrepreneurial way.

New fit for purpose kitchen where youth workers can teach valuable life skills through hands-on culinary programs. Many of our young people come from backgrounds where nutrition is a low priority. We hope to encourage our young people to improve their skills and create a path to future wellbeing for themselves and their family members.

Sports hall expansion to increase capacity and become more accessible, so that more members of the community can enjoy this affordable space for activities.

New artwork created by young people, in partnership with Somerset Art Works, now decorates the space with bright colours and creativity. This partnership was a great opportunity for young people to get more involved in thinking about how they wanted their future space to look.

The party was a big hit, with a total of 54 young people attending. Bass Beatz, a Frome based DJ collective, supported the event with music and fun. There was also face painting, a photo booth, and lots of glitter! All in all, everyone had a blast and we are excited to see the young people of Frome showing enthusiasm for their new space.

“My dream for youth work is to ensure ALL young people are given equal opportunities to chase their dreams—empowering them to pursue what they love and become the best versions of themselves,” shares Chiara, Team Leader.

A huge thank you to the team at Frome Youth & Community Centre for all their efforts throughout the renovations. They continued to support young people in Frome through detached work and in a temporary location, and they have made the opening of FYCC an unforgettable experience.
