As a Charity we are proud to be committed to mental health awareness and to actively support the wellbeing of the team.

YMCA Brunel provides accommodation and support for young and homeless people. Our projects include:

  • Emergency Accommodation for Statutory Homeless Referrals from BANES Council. Referrals from the Council for emergency accommodation from 3 days to 3 months. Risk assessments and supporting referrals to move on to permanent accommodation. This will involve working with the BANES Move On Advisor.
  • Platform for Life provides independent shared accommodation for young people in work, training or education aged between 16 – 25 years old.
  • Bath Daystop provides support and signposting, together with a safe, warm place to stay during the day. We cover a range of issues including but not limited to life skills, practicalities and emotional issues
  • Bath Nightstop provides overnight accommodation within the homes of trained and vetted householders, or Hosts, that we recruit from within the community.

What does the job entail?

As a Homelessness Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in building both short-term and longer-term relationships within all our projects. You will need to gain the trust with 16 – 25-year olds, to help prevent youth homelessness via our Bath Nightstop Daystop, help the young people in Platform for Life Projects work towards independent living. In addition, support and assist the statutory homeless referrals move on to permanent accommodation. At the YMCA we provide Support, Housing, Advice and signposting to people in need. You will be working as part of a team within the Housing Department.

What skills will the successful candidate need?

  • Knowledge of Housing issues and legislation that affects homeless people (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Procedures
  • Experience of working with young people and conducting holistic assessments in a key worker type role
  • The skills, experience and knowledge to play a part in helping to progress the project and to support the information gathering and research processes to support further growth
  • Experience of working with various database systems and keeping up to date and accurate records.
  • Empathy and compassion in dealing with people that in a crisis
  • Work as part of a team
  • Full Driving licence and the use of a vehicle with appropriate motor insurance are essential/desirable
