Fundraising events not only help raise money for specific projects and initiatives, they are also a great way to raise awareness of the work we do in local communities and of course have fun!  The Housing and Support teams in Mendip and South Somerset were keen to raise money so that their residents could have the best Christmas possible with advent calendars, Christmas dinners, gifts to open on Christmas morning and other festive fun.  Christmas can be a really difficult time of year for some of the people we work with and we wanted them to have something to look forward to.

In Wells, The Tramways Club kindly help a charity raffle at their bingo night which was a massive success.   Many businesses and individuals supported the event by donating prizes and this raised £308 towards our Christmas appeal.

Whilst in South Somerset, The White Horse pub in Haselbury Plucknett held a quiz evening that was very well attended.  People dusted off their thinking caps and braved the cold and wet to support our work – and beat their friends and neighbours!  This was so much fun and raised an amazing £377.  Paul Lewis volunteered to write the quiz and commented:

“I’m a parent of teenage boys and when I found out about the great work YMCA Brunel Group are doing with local young people the same age as my kids, I was keen to help. Writing the quiz was a way I could help those young people have a better Christmas. It was also great to see the community come together and debate answers for such a worthy cause!”
