Christmas Meals at YMCA

christmas dinner at YMCA Brunel Group

YMCA Brunel Group provides accommodation for people experiencing homelessness and housing crisis, one of the main reasons for people becoming homeless is that they have experienced a breakdown in relationships with their family.

This means that over the Christmas period, a large proportion of our residents would not be spending time with their families. Thanks to the support of local organisations we were able to provide Christmas meals, presents and activities for our residents.

Every resident whether young or older had a Christmas gift box from Somerset WI. The WI donated over 200 brightly decorated shoe boxes with lots of goodies inside filled with love.

All clients also had a gift bag of wrapped presents. Again, this is down to kind donations including the local Churches, Wells Blue School 6th form, people donating money and just coming to the door at projects and leaving things. It never ceases to amaze staff how kind people are and we could not do this wonderful thing without them.

“I was not expecting anything, when I received the presents and opened them it made me cry that people could be so thoughtful”

Thanks to the Somerset Community Foundation our residents enjoyed a beautiful Christmas Lunch cooked by staff. Everyone enjoyed sitting around and eating together and all the residents were overwhelmed by the gifts that were so kindly donated by the local community and the YMCA.
